The National Energy Regulatory Council (NERC) reminds that applications for the ongoing Offshore Wind Farm Tender will be accepted until 8 September, meaning 30 calendar days remain for participants to submit the required documents.
"We hope that this Tender will attract the interest of both Lithuanian and foreign investors who would contribute to this strategically important national energy project. The offshore wind farm will help meet Lithuania's electricity needs and significantly strengthen the country's energy security," says Jelena Dilienė, Deputy Chair of NERC.
On June 9, the second Offshore Wind Farm Tender was launched to select developers for a 700 MW offshore wind farm. NERC is responsible for organizing this Tender and selecting the winner (preparing the terms and conditions, organizing the work of the Tender committee, and deciding on the winner).
The Tender Committee consists of two representatives from NERC and one representative delegated by each of the following: Ministry of Energy, the Competition Council, the Lithuanian Energy Agency, Vilnius University and Kaunas University of Technology.
The winner will be selected based on the most advantageous offer – either the lowest requested annual amount of potential support, or, if no support is requested, the highest development fee proposed by the tenderer to be paid to the State.
Following the evaluation of tenderers' compliance with the eligibility requirements, and the national security screening of the highest-ranked bidder, the winner is expected to be announced by the end of this year.
The new offshore wind farm is tentatively expected to begin electricity generation around 2033.
