Starting in September, a new natural gas exchange operator will commence operations in Lithuania

On June 27th, National Energy Regulatory Council (NERC) approved a decision allowing European Energy Exchange AG to operate as a natural gas exchange operator in Lithuania. The operator is set to commence operations in September of this year.

The company began its natural gas exchange operations in Germany and has been active since April 30, 2002.

“This decision, permitting European Energy Exchange to operate in Lithuania as a natural gas exchange operator, marks a new stage in the development of the natural gas exchange—not only in Lithuania but also across the Baltic States and Finland. By replacing GET Baltic, EEX will broaden the base of market participants, while new products will enhance market liquidity, price transparency, and predictability across all participating countries," said Council Member Karolis Januševičius.

As of September 9th, European Energy Exchange AG will take over from UAB GET Baltic, which currently serves as the natural gas exchange operator in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland.
